Looking for private music lessons in Ballard, North Seattle, or Shoreline? Then the Ballard and Shoreline Academies are for you! The best part is that you can register at any time of the year! Our professional facilities are sound dampened rooms with windows in every door. All of our instructors are university trained and have undergone a criminal background check for your piece of mind. And we always have a front desk person to assist you. In addition, our academy is free from the distractions present in home lessons and lessons offered in the back of noisy music stores.

Tuition is per month. See our policies and procedures for more info! Music lesson enrollment is ongoing until you withdraw through the front desk.

If a student already has previous experience with their prospective instrument, make sure to contact the front desk to ensure you are placed with an instructor that can provide appropriate instruction in regards to your experience.

We offer piano lessons with real pianos to students of all ages and abilities from beginners to very advanced students. We offer every style of piano lessons from classical to jazz and pop. We have students who want to play just for fun and students who excel with conservatory curriculum. As we have multiple piano teachers on staff at the Ballard Academy, we are able to match students with a teacher that works best with their particular age, ability and interest. We start piano lessons from age 5 onwards. Academy piano lessons are all private one-on-one instruction and lesson lengths are 30 minutes, 45 minutes or 1 hour. While our piano lessons are all private, parents are more than welcome to sit in on their child’s lessons. For our advanced piano students we have teachers with master’s degrees in piano who can prepare them for university entrance. Students sing all kinds of music from their favorite artists to classical arias.  Our voice teachers all have a university degree in music specializing in voice and sing everything from pop and jazz to opera.  Our teachers all have performance backgrounds as well, and some perform locally in Seattle bands or ensembles.  Just a sample of what a student will learn in singing lessons includes how to breathe properly, how to increase their range, proper pitch, how to project and stage presence.  Our schools offer two optional performance opportunities each year with our Winter and Summer recitals. No matter what style of music you want to sing, the Ballard and Shoreline Academy has a great voice instructor for you.

The Ballard and Shoreline Academy offers guitar lessons for acoustic and electric guitar. We have an excellent guitar teaching staff and teach guitar lessons in everything from rock to jazz, classical to pop, Spanish to chording.  Many of our teachers actively perform on guitar in local seattle bands.  Our guitar teachers have college or university music degrees so they know the proper theory and technique no matter if a student is interested in metal or classical.  Guitar lessons at the Ballard Academy are enhanced by the opportunity of learning how to jam with other musicians in a rock band setting or how to perform solo in one of our recitals.  No matter what type of guitar lessons you are interested in, we have the right teacher to help you. Typically a student would be 6 before starting guitar lessons, due to their hand size, but some younger students start with a junior sized guitar.

Our studios offer private ukulele instruction. Most of our ukulele teachers also teach guitar, which shares most chord and scale shapes with the uke. Our studio has an outstanding teaching staff that can teach all sorts of musical styles. You will find many of our teachers spread out around the area performing in all sorts of bands or ensembles. Our teachers additionally have university music degrees so they know the proper theory and technique no matter what the student is interested in. For every student, we have the right teachers for you. Typically a student would be 6 before starting ukulele lessons, due to their hand size, but some younger students start with a junior sized guitar.

The Ballard Academy offers guitar lessons for bass. We have an excellent bass teaching staff that can teach in many musical styles. Our music teachers have university music degrees. They have extensive background in proper music theory and technique. All all music lessons at the Ballard Academy are enhanced by the opportunity of learning how to jam with other musicians in a rock band setting or how to perform solo in one of our recitals.  No matter what type of bass lessons you are interested in, we have the right teacher to help you.  Typically a student would be 6 before starting bass lessons, due to their hand size, but some younger students start with a junior sized guitar.

We offer a wide variety of drum lessons or percussion lessons.  Most of our students learn on a drum kit.  We have both male and female students and typically do not start drum lessons before age 8 as students need to be able to reach both the pedal and the high hat.  We do have some younger students but suggest they come in for a trial drum lesson to see if they are big enough to get started.  Drum lessons are taught on a drum kit in our studios but students are able to get started practicing at home on practice pads before purchasing or renting a drum kit.  Our drum lessons stress proper technique so students become good drummers quickly. Our Drum instructors have degrees in percussion, so in addition to teaching how to play on a kit, they also teach reading music notation and theory, which is not always common.

Our strings program offers private instruction in violin. Our private violin lessons start as young as age 6. We have students of all ages from adults to children.  For younger children we highly encourage a parent to sit in on the lesson to help the student at home with things such as posture and hand positioning. Our violin and viola teachers have university or college degrees in their instrument and many perform regularly with local orchestras or bands.

The academy’s offer private viola lessons. We start strings lessons with students as young as 6 years old. For younger children we highly encourage a parent to sit in on the lesson to help the student at home with things such as posture and hand positioning. Our viola teachers have university or college degrees in their instrument and many perform regularly with local orchestras or bands.

Our private saxophone lessons generally start from age 8 onwards. Earlier than age 8, a student typically does not have the lung capacity and strength to handle these instruments. Our saxophone and clarinet instructors actively perform in all types of bands and ensembles and as soloists.

The Academies of Music and Dance in Ballard and Shoreline offer private flute lessons! Students generally start at age 8 and older, but sometimes younger students will start with a special curved-head flute.  As will all our instruments, the teachers have university or college degrees in woodwinds. We offer a wide range of styles with repertoire ranging from classical to Irish tunes and beyond. Our flute students can enhance their performance skills by playing in our Winter and Summer recitals.

Our private clarinet lessons generally start from age 8 onwards. Younger than age 8, a learner typically will not have the lung capacity to handle a clarinet. Are clarinet instructors are proficient in their craft as well as multiple woodwind instruments. You can find our instructors actively performing in all types of bands and ensembles and as soloists.

Students taking trumpet lessons usually are ages 9 or older as they need to have developed a great lung capacity.  Our brass teachers have university or college degrees in music and perform in everything from salsa bands to local orchestras.  We can help students enhance their skills for their school band program or develop advanced skills to become soloists.

Our studio offers private trombone lessons. Students taking trombone lesson usually are ages 9 or older as they need to have developed a great lung capacity and in the case of the trombone need to be big enough to hold the instrument.  Our brass teachers have university degrees in music and perform in everything from salsa bands to local orchestras.  We can help students enhance their skills for their school band program or develop advanced skills to become soloists.
